In-Home Entertainment

You may want to bring your own media devices to use at the house, because our entertainment options are limited.

The wifi network is "BakerOhanaGuest" and the password is "Aloha816."

There are TVs in the upstairs bedroom and downstairs bedroom, but they do not have cable TV access. Both TVs have streaming services available on them, including Netflix and Disney+.

If you want to watch a sports game live and can't access it on the internet, your best bet is probably to go to a sports bar like Duffy's (225 Clematis St) and watch it there.

Keeping Clean

Here are some "dirty details" about keeping the house in order.

Garbage and Recycling: Garbage goes into the big brown trash can outside. Garbage is collected twice a week, Tuesday and Friday mornings (take the trash can out to the curb the night before). Recycling goes in the yellow and blue bins and is collected Friday. A spot for recyclables is in the lower cabinets under the kitchen island. Recycling is collected on Friday morning (take the yellow and blue bins to the curb on Thursday night). Recycling is not mandatory if you find it easier to just throw everything in the trash.

Washer and dryer: The washer and dryer are located in the kitchen. The appliances are very easy to use. There is soap in the cabinet above the washer dryer. We use detergent sheets but there are also pods; feel free to use either one or to use your own.

Vacuum: There is a robot vacuum in the dining room. Feel free to use it as needed.

There is also a broom and dustpan in the cabinet with the washer and dryer.

Yardwork: Oscar is supposed to come every other week to maintain the yard. He lets himself into the yard, so don't be surprised if you see workers back there. He may ring the doorbell and ask you to move the car in order to get his lawnmower to the back gate.

Food and Paper Products: Feel free to use any paper products, cleaning supplies, and food that is here. Please replace paper products and cleaning supplies as they are used up (you don't need to replace the food). Don't worry about purchasing your own products unless you have certain products that you prefer using.

Shopping of All Kinds -- Groceries, Clothes, and More

Grocery Shopping:

There are several good grocery shopping options in the area.

Publix is the most convenient, but also has the highest prices. 500 Belvedere Rd.

Aldi has the best prices but a small selection. They do have a great stock of organic and gluten-free products. If you go, make sure you have a quarter for a shopping cart, and note that they do not provide grocery bags (there are some reusable bags under the kitchen sink). 2481 Okeechobee Blvd.

Walmart has the largest selection of groceries and other household items (you can find just about anything at Walmart). I shop the one on 45th Street even though it is not the closest one because it's a tiny bit nicer than the one on Belvedere. You can also order groceries online and then pick them up at the store for free. 4225 45th St.

Target has everything under the sun: clothes, household goods, food, medicine, etc. The prices are quite a bit higher than Walmart but the quality is much better too. I love the clothes and household goods at Target! Worth checking out. 1760 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd.

Fun Shopping:

Rosemary Square is the closest, and has a few stores like H&M, Lululemon, and Urban Outfitters.

The Palm Beach Outlets has many name brand stores at discount prices, such as Nike, Coach, Columbia, Hurley, J. Crew, Kate Spade, ect.

Where to Eat

Here our some of our favorite restaurants around town!

American/Diner:
Howley's, 4700 S. Dixie Highway -- a retro and quirky diner with great food and mini golf for the kids. Very family friendly. My favorite place.

Bednar's Farm Fresh Market, 412 Claremore Dr -- pick up quick sandwiches, salads, and cookies here. Also some nice grocery items.

Tropical Smokehouse, 3815 S. Dixie Hwy -- a good barbecue spot.

Cheesecake Factory, Cityplace, 701 S. Rosemary Ave -- the menu is enormous (as are the portions), so everyone will be able to find something they like. And of course, don't forget the cheesecake.

Italian:

Elisabetta's, 185 Banyan Blvd -- A great location on the intercoastal downtown and the food is great.

Lynora's Market, 3301 S. Dixie Hwy -- A casual Italian restaurant with pasta, pizza, sandwiches, and desserts. The meatballs are a must and the desserts are heavenly.

Cafe Sapori, 205 Southern Blvd -- a nice, white-linen Italian restaurant. Is usually busy during the winter, so call ahead.

Asian:
Saito's, Cityplace, 700 S. Rosemary Ave -- a fun Japanese hibachi restaurant where they cook your food right in front of you (and do some entertaining).

Sushi Jo/Jo Bistro, 319 Belvedere Rd #12 -- great place for sushi, tom kha soup, and acai bowls.

Hispanic:
El Guerrero, 628 Belvedere Rd -- delicious authentic Mexican food; I recommend the gorditas! The location is kind of a hole in the wall, so don't plan on this for a romantic evening out.

Havana, 6801 S. Dixie Highway -- best Cuban food in town!

Rocco's Tacos, 224 Clematis St -- the atmosphere is really fun, even if the food is only okay. Get guacamole made at your table.

Tacos Al Carbon, 4420 Lake Worth Rd -- if you really want the Mexican taco truck experience, this is the place to go. The tacos are delicious but you have to eat on a folding table outdoors. For a fun evening, get tacos and corn-on-the-cob to go and head over to the Lake Worth drive-in movie!

Ice Cream:
La Michoacana, 636 Belvedere Rd -- authentic Mexican paletas (ice cream popcicles), ice cream, and drinks.

Sloan's, 112 S. Clematis St, or Cityplace, 700 S. Rosemary Ave -- a fun place to take the kids; very Willy Wonka with delicious treats.

What to Do Around Town

I'm sure your biggest question is, what are the best things to do around town. Of course, the number one answer is the BEACH! But there is lots more information I can give you.

Beaches

Of course you will want to spend lots of time at the beach.
There are lots of beaches to choose from. The closest is Palm Beach, which you can get in in under 10 minutes by driving east on Okeechobee Blvd until you hit the water. This is a nice beach but parking is very expensive. They are very quick to write parking tickets, too, so do NOT park illegally.

Juno Beach is a gorgeous beach to spend the day. It is quite a bit further, about 30 minutes, but parking is free and easy. It is right next to the Loggerhead Marine Life Center, which you should definitely check out (see below), so that is a nice way to spend the day.

Ocean Reef park is another nice beach to the north of us with free parking. There is a small playground there and picnicking spots.

A great place for the kids is the Boynton Beach Inlet. It is about 20 minutes away. Parking is free and very close to the beach, and there are picnic tables, lots of shady trees, and a playground. It is the inlet rather than the ocean, so there are no waves and it is very shallow. It's nice for swimming and snorkeling and is much safer than the ocean if you are not strong swimmers. It gets very crowded on the weekends and holidays, though, so I would recommend it only for a weekday.

Of course any beach you hit up and down the coast will be very nice, so feel free to try out any spot that strikes your fancy.

Other Places of Interest

There are many other things to see here in Palm Beach County that you might like to try out.

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is very cool. They rescue sea turtles that need medical help, rehabilitate them, and then release them back into the wild. You can visit the center and see the sea turtles that are in recovery. They also have some aquariums with local tropical fish and sea life. It is free to visit. You might even check to see if a turtle is scheduled to be released soon; and watch him make his way back to the ocean. https://www.marinelife.org/

The Manatee Lagoon is great to visit in the winter. In warm/hot months you are not likely to see manatees, as they like to congregate there when the water is cold. Check the manatee cam on the website to see if there are manatees around on any given day. You can only see them from above ground; there is no underwater viewing area. Free to visit. https://www.visitmanateelagoon.com/

The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is also a free center that features local wildlife. You can see bears, panthers, bald eagles, alligators, bobcats, foxes, and lots more. http://www.buschwildlife.org/

While I'm talking about wildlife, a fun trip is to Lion Country Safari. It is like a zoo that you drive through in your car, and also has a small amusement park included in the price. One of my favorite parts is to feed the giraffes up close and personal. https://www.lioncountrysafari.com/

If you'd like a tour of West Palm Beach along with interesting facts and history, I would recommend the Diva Duck tour. It leaves from Cityplace, and is a bus and a boat in one. There is a driving tour, and then the bus drives right into the intercoastal waterway and takes you on a water tour as well. http://www.divaduck.com/

The Flagler Museum is a great cultural and historical spot. It's a beautiful Gilded Area home of the founder of South Florida, and you'll feel like you're walking into the Great Gatsby's home. Flagler's private railway car is out back as well, which is fun to walk through. It's not very interesting for the kids, but they will get a kick out of the enormous banyan tree next door at the church. https://www.flaglermuseum.us/

If you would like to get out into the Everglades and see alligators, there are two spots we recommend. Everglades Holiday Park does airboat rides and alligator wrestling. It's a fun experience. www.evergladesholidaypark.com

Less touristy is the Shark Valley trail, where you can bike (there is a bike rental on site), ride a tram, or walk the trail in the Everglades to a big observation deck. We have always seen many many gators on that trail. www.nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/shark-valley-tamiami.htm

Emergencies

Hopefully all will go smoothly during your stay and you will not need any of this information. But just in case, here is information on how to deal with emergencies.

Immediate Emergencies

In a serious emergency that requires police, fire department, or immediate medical treatment, dial 911. It will work even on a phone without a sim card.

Medical Needs

If you need a doctor but not an ambulance, go to either the emergency room or the urgent care. The closest emergency room is Good Samaritan Medical Center at 1309 N. Flagler Dr. There is also a children's hospital and children's emergency room very close at St. Mary's Medical Center, 901 45th St.

Urgent care is great for issues that need a doctor but are not complicated. Stitches, sprained ankles, fevers, coughs, issues like that can be handled at urgent care for less money than a hospital. And you don't need an appointment, just walk in any time they are open. There is an urgent care at 4714 Okeechobee Blvd and one at 2007 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd.

Vehicle Problems

If the car breaks down on the I-95 and you are stranded, you can call the Road Rangers for free by dialing *347.

If you have car trouble but are not stranded, contact us and we will help get things taken care of. If for some reason you need a mechanic but cannot reach us, our mechanic's name is Jeremy Gast and his website is https://www.facebook.com/JMMobileMechanic/. He comes to the house to do the work.

Vehicles

If a vehicle exchange has been arranged, we have a Honda Fit that you can use. It runs well and should give you no trouble. If you do run into car trouble, just let us know and our mechanic is usually available to come to the house and do the work there. The registration and insurance cards are in the glove box should you need them. If you drive on the turnpike or another toll road, the car has a SunPass device that will automatically pay the toll.
