Keeping Clean

Here are some "dirty details" about keeping the house in order.

Garbage and Recycling: Garbage goes into the big brown trash can outside. Garbage is collected twice a week, Tuesday and Friday mornings (take the trash can out to the curb the night before). Recycling goes in the yellow and blue bins and is collected Friday. A spot for recyclables is in the lower cabinets under the kitchen island. Recycling is collected on Friday morning (take the yellow and blue bins to the curb on Thursday night). Recycling is not mandatory if you find it easier to just throw everything in the trash.

Washer and dryer: The washer and dryer are located in the kitchen. The appliances are very easy to use. There is soap in the cabinet above the washer dryer. We use detergent sheets but there is also liquid detergent; feel free to use either one or to use your own.

Oven: The buttons for the oven are a little finicky sometimes so if they are not responding to your touch just keep trying. Sometimes using your forearm or elbow works better!

Vacuum: There is a robot vacuum in the dining room. Feel free to use it as needed. It has a vacuum attachment and also a vacuum/mop attachment located in lower cabinet next to the washer/dryer. Since the robot is controlled by an app you'll just have to turn it on with the button on top and let it go wherever it wants to go.

There is also a broom and dustpan in the cabinet with the washer and dryer.

Yardwork: Oscar is supposed to come every other week to maintain the yard. He lets himself into the yard, so don't be surprised if you see workers back there. He may ring the doorbell and ask you to move the car in order to get his lawnmower to the back gate.

Food and Paper Products: Feel free to use any paper products, cleaning supplies, and food that is here. Please replace paper products and cleaning supplies as they are used up (you don't need to replace the food). Don't worry about purchasing your own products unless you have certain products that you prefer using.

Palmetto bugs and ants: We spray regularly for pests, but living in a tropical climate means bugs will always be an issue. Palmetto bugs and ants do tend to find a way inside occasionally. They will be less likely to stick around if you keep the kitchen sink clear, particularly overnight, and if you keep anything sugary tightly sealed. We apologize profusely if you encounter these critters; we hate it as much as you do! Unfortunately they are a part of life in Florida.
